The 147th New York Infantry entered the Battle of Gettysburg determined to hold the line. By the end of the fighting, nearly 79% of the regiment had become casualties in one of the most devastating experiences any Union regiment endured. In this battlefield walk, we retrace the regiment's movements from the opening moments of their fight to the point where they were finally driven from the field. Along the way, we visit the key locations where these soldiers fought, examine the tactical decisions that shaped the battle, and share the personal stories of the men whose courage defined the regiment's legacy. Standing where they stood allows us to better understand not only how they fought, but what they endured during one of the Civil War's most pivotal battles.
